My Responsibility In The Pack!
Alpha Wolves:
The Alpha wolves are generally the only breeding pair. They have a very stable
position in the pack. Alphas have the highest responsibility, decision making law,
and other powers and authorities. The Alpha wolves have the greatest amount of
social freedom out of all the pack members. The Alpha's have the most say in where the pack goes, what they do, where they hunt, which animal they hunt, where they sleep, and when they do it. The alpha can also stop a hunt. Their main job is taking care of the general safety of the pack. They are in charge of determining and approving the rest of the packs hierarchical positions. Alpha's are in charge of deciding the feeding order of the pack, they always eat first though.
The Alpha's are intelligent, confident, and calm. They keep their head and tail high. Aggression, size, strength, or age have nothing to do with determining the Alpha.
In the howling ritual their head is always held highest, they eat first in the eating ritual. Any wolves who try to eat first or hold their head higher when howling is offending the Alphas authority which he absolutely will not tolerate. The female Alpha tends to be more submissive towards the Alpha male unless she has pups in the den and then he has to act more submissively.
Beta Wolves:
Beta wolves role in the pack is unclear though their position in the pack is fairly stable. They have
vastly similar powers and authority as the Alpha only slightly reduced, with obvious submission
and respect to the Alpha wolves. They are allowed to eatwith the Alphas in most cases. Beta wolves
are the secondary leaders of a pack, if the Alpha dies the highest Beta would most likely assume the position. A beta's responsibilities sometimes include defending pack members, such as the omega, from more dominant wolf's attacks. A beta is often in charge of teaching and caring for the packs pups and sick or injured pack members. Overall the Beta keeps the peace and looks out for the good of all pack members.
Middle Wolves:
Any wolf between the beta and the omega of the pack has a very unstable position within the pack.
Middle wolves tend to be aggressive and bold because of the constant need to both keep their position
and prove their superiority within the pack. They are constantly defending their position since it can
and often does change every day. The middle wolves act as an infantry who practice hunting tactics,
prosecute, and chase the prey. They are the blunt work and driving force in the pack.
Wolf Pups:
Pups have a very special status as they are the packs miracles. Being a wolf pup is indeed a
privilege. Puppies must respect the principals and subordination of the Alphas and Beta but
they may eat first and special care is always taken of them. The beta often times predigests
food too stiff for the pups to eat. Wolf pups are higher seated on the hierarchical ladder than
the omegas . The pups only job is to learn from the older wolves and eat so they can grow and hopefully survive their first winter.
Omega Wolves:
The omega of the pack has a very difficult position to fill. Omega is the lowest possible rank.
The omega deals with considerable injustice in the form of numerous everyday expressions of
superiority and some form of bullying by other dominant members of the pack, and even from
the wolf pups. Occasional biting, forcing omega to lay on the ground, frequent humiliation and
other expressions of dominance from the other wolves are the inconveniences that omega wolf must endure during the normal day. He often walks and howls in much lower position than all the others, with tail pulled between his legs. He often has to perform an act of subordination, consisting of laying on his back and weakly whining. Although omega wolf is the least recognized, he is also a very beloved member of the pack. He maintains a pleasant and joyful atmosphere, detracts from everyday worries of entire pack, they provoke and encourage the games. He is an essential part of the pack, without which it would not work.
